I don't know how much customer service plays into your purchasing desitions. I generally give customer service people a lot of benefit of the doubt, but I've been struggling with Panosonic since January regarding a repaired camera that was lost when they shipped it back to me.
the back story;
I informed them that I would be out of town on 1/13 and offered to pay extra if they could ship my repaired camera overnight.
They agreed to send it 2 day UPS but it was actually sent ground and it allegedly arrived on 1/15
When I came back from vacation, there was no camera.
After multiple calls to UPS they said that the package was left on my porch and was NOT signed for.
UPS said that a missing package claim would have to be initiated by the sender.

Why Pano sucks;
*They've broken at least 4 promises to call me back and do not update me on claim progress.
*The repair department closes at 4:30 EST (maybe CST I can't remember for sure)
*The voice-mail system does not have an option to speak to the repair dept, just gives a mailing address to send broken items.
*It takes about 20 mins to reach a human being no matter what time or day.
*I left a message for the manager of the service department and got a cll back 2 days later from the wrong Antionette. (If you've got 2 managers of different departments with the same name, perhaps you should try to listen to the customer re: what dept she wants)
*It took 2 months of my calling at least once a week to get a direct phone number to their service department.
*They kept insisting that UPS obtained a signature for the package despite my explaining multiple times that they hadn't and at least 1 request that they add that to their notes.
*it's been 3 months without a camera

1. My iBook (old) will not download or play Quicktime, Realtime, Flash - essentially anything video related will not work. Have downloaded programs and drivers a few times. To no avail. Any idea what could be happening.

2. Am getting a new computer soon mainly for graphics. Am thinking that my best (portable) bet will be Mac Book Pro with a phat graphics card/memory and just the basics, otherwise. Thoughts?

The K790 sells for $399 at PES, and interested customers must buy it "unlocked," meaning the phone isn't tied directly to a wireless carrier's service. (Customers still need to buy a wireless service plan separately.)

I’m now well into Search Engine Optimization & Marketing education and I am having a personal web site created so that I can start practicing what I’m learning.

On the site will be a blog for business related articles and here is where I am putting out a call to anyone interested. I’m looking for a few people who are interested in posting articles (attributed to you at the end of the article) and posting them in the blog on my site. Yes you can link to your site in the blog.

The Downer:
You would be submitting the articles for free - no pay -

However…. The primary reason for the site is so that I can practice driving traffic to my site and building a rating for it. So you will get recognition. I plan on utilizing a variety of methods including handing out business cards with the web site on them personally.

The topics for the blog need to stay decently within the business arena.
Ideas / themes I would like to see or will consider:
• Personal opinions on business related software / gadgets / products
• Personal opinions on business related events or upcoming events
• Views on local non business events (no adult or edgy events - sorry). Events that are located near business centers / gallerias ect where business people could walk to or drive a short distance to (any city/state - but must be stated at the top of the article)
• Anything business related – any business / industry (non adult / edgy)
• Topic ????

I am open to suggestions

If interested pls comment or send me a message. I will be investing my own personal income towards this project so I am taking it seriously. If it becomes successful I will move into a money generating phase.

The site will be available between Oct. 2nd to 5th 2006

Are there any other phones that you would recommend from VZW?

I know this may not be quite up to the typical idea of a "gadget", but I thought at least some people here might be interested, so here it is - my "review" of the new Gillette Fusion razor.

After reading an article several years ago about all the research Gillette puts into developing their shaving technology, I've pretty much upgraded to their new products soon after they've come out. So, when I saw the new "Fusion" 5-blade razor at Target recently on sale and with a free can of the equally new Fusion shave gel, I figured I'd give it a try, even though I was skeptical of the benefits of two extra blades - kind of a diminishing returns kind of thing. I've been using the Mach 3 powered razor (the one that slightly vibrates while you shave), and have found that the vibration does seem to improve the quality of the shave a bit, at least while the battery is relatively new. So, I got the high-end powered version of the Fusion, even though it only includes one cartridge with the razor instead of the two that come with the "manual" model.

How well does it work? Not too bad. It's a minor improvement over the Mach 3 when the blade's brand new with no pulling at all (the Mach 3 pulls a bit for the first day or two). The cartridge is even bigger than the Mach 3's, though, which reduces its ability to get into tight areas such as just under the nose. The Fusion actually has a sixth blade on the top edge of the back of the cartridge that's intended to be useful for trimming side burns and getting into tight areas, but I've found it to be largely ineffectual. I've also found that the five blades are close enough together that they don't quite rinse as well as the Mach 3, though that's not too big a deal - it just takes an extra swish in the water. The powered version has an 8-minute auto-shutoff feature in case it gets turned on accidentally in your shaving kit (not terribly useful in my mind), and there's also a low-battery indicator, but I've not had it long enough to know how well it works. I do know that a new battery does seem to make a difference with the Mach 3. Overall, the slight improvement in the quality of the shave had me ready to make the switch, but when I went back to Target a few days later to get more "ammo" I was stunned at the outrageous price of cartridges. I'd already been wincing at the cost of the Mach 3 blades (around $14 for an 8-pack, I think), but they're positively cheap compared to the Fusion blades. A 8-pack of those puppies will set you back over $22!!! So, that pretty much put an end to my plans to change my razor technology. The Fusion is a little bit nicer, but it's not a lot nicer, and certainly not nice enough to justify the added expense.

However, the Fusion "Hydra Gel" shaving gel is quite nice. I'd been using Edge for several years, occasionally trying other brands, including Gillette, in the quest for a refreshing fragrance (Edge is pretty boring in that regard) combined with good lubrication, but nothing gave me the shaving comfort of Edge (though the menthol Nivea isn't too bad). The previous Gillette gels just weren't as nice as Edge, but that's all changed with the new Fusion gel. It produces a very thick lather that feels very nice, lubricates very well, and has a fragrance that's nice and refreshing in the morning (not as good as menthol, but close). So, while the razor isn't that big a deal, the new gel is wonderful (I used the "Ultra Sensitive" variety by the way).

So, if you've been intrigued by the fancy displays for the new Fusion razor, make sure you check out the prices of the blades first. It seems to be an incremental improvement in some ways, but not worth the extra cost in my mind. However, the new Fusion Hydra Gel is very nice, and worth a try.

If you're a GPS veteran who want all kinds of features such as altitude, customized screens, hundreds or thousands of waypoints or "breadcrumbs", then you'll be disappointed with the nuvi. However, if you're just looking for a compact, easy to use device that has all the maps preloaded and will use voice prompts to tell you when to turn (including the names of the streets and destinations, even in different languages and voices), then this is the one to get. A fellow at work is a long time GPS user and has tried all the major brands over the years and he says Garmin traditionally has the best maps and most accurate routing (he currently has the c320, but really wants to upgrade to the nuvi for the street name voice prompts). I didn't do an exhaustive search for the best online price, but I think I did ok at www.compuplus.com.

Alright, this is for my wife. She has gone through at least 4 flashdrives in the past three or four years. Every time losing important data.
She uses her flash drive daily in her lab and at home for papers, journals and whatever else.

I think I might have figured out one reason for the early deaths of her drives. She saves her documents to them as she is writing them, so she is going through alot more write cycles than I do.

Would it be better to go with a small HD? Verbatim makes a 4Gb HD thats about the size of a lighter, and the price is a bit cheaper than a flash drive. She needs at least 256 - 512Mb but does not need as much as 4Gb, something small and lightweight that she can carry to school.

I was contimplating an external HD but its more than she needs and heavier than she need.

Primary use is going to be graphics and video work. I used Photoshop and Dreamweaver constantly, and want a machine that is also capable of running Premiere. I need a PC based laptop. I've got the software and the skills to do my work on a PC. I plan on getting a Mac eventually, but not now.

I'm not worried about battery life. More about the screen looking good and the processing power.

The machine I thinking of picking up is a refurbed Toshiba with a P4 processor ( you can see it here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00030NZZO/ref=wl_it_dp/104-2670490-5471126?%5Fencoding=UTF8&colid=1L4GI6YTW3YNM&coliid=IP5JFLQF5ROG7&v=glance&n=541966 )

Now I've heard while they have battery life the P4 M processors have less processing power. But I've gotten different answers from different people. Anyone got any advice on what to get in the $1300 range with what I've stated here?

I know there are several solutions to do this from VHS/DVD Recorder combos to stand alone DVD burners of all shapes and sizes. Since this is for my parents simplicity is key. I don't see them needing a lot of bells and whistles but would like a solution that would give them good quality DVDs. Any tips or personal experiences?

I've been using a Windows Mobile Smartphone for about 6 weeks now and I'm definitely adjusting well! I got an Audiovox SMT-5600 through Cingular, and a $20 unlimited data plan. It's definitely the most advanced phone I've owned and I like it a lot. There are some problems.

GREAT:
* SMALL - this thing is downright tiny considering what it does.
* Good battery life, phone/data reception is just fine
* Screen is bright, colorful, detailed and easy to see in daylight
* Works just like a phone with features of a PDA
* Expandable to 1GB flash with reasonably priced Mini-SD card
* Pocket IE works better than older PocketPC OS. Gmail renders okay!
* Smartphone's "one handed UI" concept for apps works out nicely.
* Audio options - regular handset, _stereo_ headset (included), loud speakerphone (usable for audiobooks).
* Nice padded magnetic-clasp holster included
* CPU is fast, can even play videos, real-time EQ audio, multitask, etc.
* Connection & sync options - USB 2 is fast, Bluetooth & IR work well. (I never set up BT Activesync but heard others had minor issues)
* Easy to set up as a standard Bluetooth serial modem with my laptop
* Great mapping software (Mapopolis is one simple, fast and cheap option), plus all map software claims to be compatible with Bluetooth GPS. I have got to get one of those!
* Lots of other software available - audiobooks/media players/games/utilities.
* If you want to write your own software for the phone, MS offers a free download of a full visual cross-compile environment and emulator! ("eMbedded Visual C++") As usual, MSDN documentation is adequate as long as you have some experience with Win32 or CE.NET (no MFC on these devices).

PROBLEMS:
* Stability is not quite there. About once a week, I try to make a phone call or a data connection and realize that subsystem is not functioning. A reboot of the phone is required. Argh!!
* Phone takes 2 or 3 minutes just to boot up.
* No EDGE network support -- GPRS is slow. I got about 40kbps tops.
* Non-standard 4-connector mini-plug for stereo headset+mic, but you can get an adapter online.
* Headphone output lacking in power - if you want to listen to music on better headphones you may need to adapt AND boost it which is definitely going to take up some pocket space.
* Does NOT include Bluetooth support for high quality wireless headphones. You can "hack" it to play regular audio through a BT phone headset, but the quality will suck. Might be ok for books/podcast talk.
* Camera sucks (640x480 max, slow speed, poor contrast, non-adjustable)
* Could really use just a couple more MB of RAM - I often have to close apps or restart after using it for several different things.
* Can't swap out Mini-SD memory card without removing battery. (It's okay, with 1GB I basically don't need to.)

GOODLINK:
I'm running the 3rd party GoodLink software to connect to the MS Exchange mail server at work, which basically keeps the phone in constant contact with work, emails/calendar/contacts synced 24/7. As you might expect, I did notice a reduction in battery life after installing GoodLink.

And I would have been sort of pissed about it taking over my home screen, but honestly its home screen is a little nicer and can also be reconfigured if I want to go to the trouble. GoodLink also uses a lot of memory/resources and may cause some minor issues (like maybe some of those reboots I mentioned), but the convenience and nice interface of the software makes it worthwhile.

So what do you think? Should I send the phone back and wait for "the rocker"? I haven't seen any estimates on how much $ is this itunes phone? I got the RAZR for 200 bucks as an upgrade and sold my soul to cingular for another 2 years.

Where can I get SOFTWARE free or cheap besides download.com?
I'm interested in a better "to do" list than the "tasks" included w/outlook. Some games and a food diary too.

I am getting ready to travel to China and most of the hotels have an Ethernet connection in the room for email and internet, but few have wi-fi hot spots. I have a laptop which can easily connect to the hotels network, but I would like to leave my Laptop at home and bring a handheld device instead (Space and weight issue).

It will primarily be used for email to the US and probably some light internet use. I did some research and was unable to find a device that does a Wired Internet Connection. It seems that there are all 802.11x wi-fi standard, but I have yet to find one that is Ethernet compatible. Is there A PDA on the market that has an adapter to make a physical Ethernet connection possible?

Thanks for any help or just point me in the right direction.
